MODERN KNAPPED. An all primitive/traditional model of an atlatl dart removeable foreshaft. The full length is 12 inches, and the point is modern knapped replica of a stemmed Teotihuacan Culture atlatl dart point, made in Obsidian volcanic glass. This point was knapped by hand here, following an example in the Smithsonian Institution collections from the archaeology site of Teotihuacan in Mexico, dating around AD200-AD600. The shaft is made in Laurel bush sapling, and the point is set in with pine pitch/charcoal primitive glue, and then lashed with real Elk sinew. The foreshaft could be carved at the base to fit any other dart model, or used as teaching tool in its current state, or used as a knife. The foreshaft system was used universally as a way to use interchangeable points with main spear/dart shafts, and to be able to alter the point mass and balance of the whole dart. It also allows reloading of new points during the hunt, and the foreshaft itself can be taken out and used for handheld cutting.
