This modern knapped  knife was made in volcanic glass Obsidian, and it was hafted on a handle of natural Elk antler. The full knife measures 8 and 3/4th inches long, and was used once in a public demo, and resharpened for further testing or use. Stone knives must be treated differently than steel knives, and obsidian is the most brittle of the stone knives.  They can cut hide and fiber, but are not used aggressively to chop, pry, or carve wood.  The blade was set into the wood without a sinew wrap, and has a pine pitch/charcoal mix seal where they are connected inside the soft pith section inside the antler, in the traditional method.  The exposed Obsidian blade section measures 3 and a quarter inches.
