A CAST molded from the original artifact, a rare example of a Levallois flake point, using the "Nubian Levallois" technique from the Middle Paleolithic/Middle Stone Age(around 300,000 to 40,000 years ago) in Africa. The artifact comes from the Karoo Desert, in the Western and Northern Capes of South Africa, which is the southernmost example known of this technology. It measures 86mm long, and 35mm at widest, max thickness at 10mm, and looks to be made of a black basalt raw material. Levallois technology is more rare in the southern tip of Africa, and the findings have been included in the "Nubian Levallois" cultural tradition associated with Northern Africa. Example a generous loan from the Meyer collection/cast copyright Occpaleo 2024.
