6 shafts of River Cane, our native American bamboo/grass. These have been collected by hand and cured for several months indoors. This set has been matched for similar thickness and spine at both ends, and are cut at a total measurement length of 6 feet long. They are suitable and intended for atlatl shafting, and with an attached hardwood foreshaft can be longer than 7 feet, and ideal for short target competition and hunting. The narrow ends are all within a 16th of an inch to 5/16th inches diameter. Those ends have been cut near to the nodes, so that a node might be chosen for a solid butt depression for fit to atlatl spur. The thick ends are all within a 16th of an inch to a half inch diameter, and will be a great female component for a point foreshaft that can be inserted to control length and mass. The shafting is completely dry now, and only needs heating to straighten. This can be done over gas stove, sterno can, a benzene torch on low, or even rolling over candle flame. River cane bends well when heated to a light golden brown, and slowly bent over a rounded surface with light pressure until straight.
